Career and Major Fact Sheet


The finance field offers you a wide range of financial knowledge involving forecasting, budgeting, planning and controlling. You develop valued skills in small class settings and are able select courses suited to your interests, chosen from a wide range of topics. Career opportunities include, but are not limited to, financial analyst, portfolio manager, investment banker, bank management product development and more.

Finance Major

The Finance program trains you to understand the specifics of finance in management, systems, investments and international business. By supplementing the Finance degree with certain electives, you can branch further into investments, bank management, risk and insurance, real estate and accounting. The curriculum prepares you for entry-level positions across the financial career spectrum.

Finance Minor

Knowledge of finance is necessary in any business or organization in order to analyze and execute successful product, profit and value creation. The finance minor will provide you with the fundamentals of financial management, as well as institutional finance and  the financial markets in which all businesses operate.

Ph.D. in Business Administration, Finance Concentration

The Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance provides you with research and teaching skills to join university finance faculties in the United States or internationally. This is a four-year program that includes coursework, comprehensive examinations and a dissertation.

We offer four Finance-specific scholarships along with general College of Business scholarships based on merit and financial need. Internship and study abroad scholarships are also available.

Finance Internships

As a Finance major, you may use an internship as a credit for the major. If you are a junior in good standing and meet the minimum cumulative and major GPA requirements, you may be eligible to receive credit. Talk to your advisor or visit the College of Business Career Services office for more information.

The Financial Management Association exists to extend knowledge of finance beyond what can be easily taught in a classroom. The Financial Management Association provides you with information on how to increase your skills in finance, provides you with internship leads and direction on how to begin a successful finance career and helps you to develop vital networking skills that are essential in today’s business world.
