Be a critter sitter!

Open your home and your heart to our animals that are in need of a nurturing environment for a period of rehabilitation or time to mature. Help save our dogs and cats by joining our fostering team. The animals that might be in need of foster care: Puppies and kittens that need to mature, heartworm positive dogs, dogs with kennel cough and cats with URI, and dogs and cats that need to get out of their kennels and cages for socialization and training.

Fostering an animal in your home can be a rewarding experience that not only saves lives but provides animals a caring environment until they are adopted. Fostering an animal truly means saving a life and helping that animal makes a huge difference in the lives of animals and the people who adopt them. It’s fun, rewarding, and a wonderful experience.

Animal Care & Control is getting hit harder this season with kittens and puppies. Anyone that lives in Mecklenburg County can sign up to help save these precious animals.

Visit the fostering page to get the full details and how to sign up to be a critter sitter!

FREE spaying and neutering for Mecklenburg County pet owners!

Animal Care & Control encourages citizens to Spay and Neuter their pets to help prevent the birth of unwanted puppies and kittens. The Animal Care and Control Free Community Spay/Neuter Clinic can help.

If Mecklenburg County pet owners are in need of assistance in getting their pets spayed/neutered, please contact us. The waiting list is getting shorter and we'd love to help.

You can call the spay/neuter voicemail line at 704-336-4424 if you have any questions or wish to sign up. Please note that the spay/neuter line is for messages only.

You can also send an application online by visiting our spay/neuter page. Scroll to the bottom to find the applications; both the online version and the printable version.

The Humane Society of Charlotte is holding shot clinics on September 29 and December 15. Pet owners do not need to be a Mecklenburg County resident.
