Welcome to the School of Accountancy's Ph.D. Program Web-site
Mission of the Doctoral Program: The School of Accountancy doctoral program at the University of South Florida will develop and prepare individuals for careers in academic accounting. Graduates will have a mastery of one or more specialized areas of accounting, effective teaching skills to communicate this knowledge, and requisite skills to engage in respected applied, practical, and scholarly research. The anticipated primary market for graduates of the doctoral program will be universities with accounting programs that have a balanced emphasis upon teaching, research, and professional service. The Ph.D. program will be a cohesive program, which, because of its small size, will offer students the opportunity to work one-on-one with faculty in a mentoring environment.
Goals of the Program: The overall goal of the program is to develop and prepare individuals for careers in academic accounting. This overall goal is accomplished through:
1. Mastery of one or more specialized areas of accounting, such as accounting information systems, auditing or financial accounting. Specialization in accounting information systems, as a primary or secondary area of interest, is encouraged and strongly supported.
2. Development of requisite skills in behavioral and/or archival research. Specialization in behavioral research, with an emphasis on judgment and decision-making research is encouraged and strongly supported.
