March 12, 2012. Georgia Perimeter College is recognized "with Distinction" on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the second year in a row. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Federal agency charged with compiling the honor roll, GPC is one of only 47 communtiy colleges in the nation to be included on the honor roll and is the only college or university in the state of Georgia to receive the special "with Distinction" designation. This important recognition is a testament to the quality of GPC's curricular and co-curricular service learning program, including its Bonner Leader program, AmeriCorps program, Service Learning Faculty Fellows program, MLK Week of Service Activities, and Global Youth Service Day activities. For more information about the award, please visit the Corporation for National and Community Service. Please also read this morning's press release announcing the release of the Honor Roll.

February 15, 2012. On the second anniversary of the opening of the Atlanta Center for Civic Engagement & Service Learning, GPC President Anthony S. Tricoli will officially launch the Southeastern Institute for Sustainability. At the same event, USG Chacellor Hank Huckaby and President Tricoli along with US EPA Region 4 Administrator Gwen Keyes Fleming will sign a Memorandum of Understanding designating Georgia Perimete College as the nation's flagship community college to develop an environmental sustainability education program for the EPA.

The Southeastern Institute for Sustainability, an arm of the Atlantna Center for Civic Engagement & Service Learning and led by Dr. Joanne Chu, will advocate for GPC’s integration of sustainable principles and practices across the curriculum, campus operations, and student activities. The Institute will also be heavily involved in community-outreach; working with community based organizations, government agencies, and schools to promote the principles of environmental sustainability and sustainable development. Working with corporate, government, and community partners, the Institute will strive to secure “green” internships, service learning, and civic engagement opportunities for GPC’s students.

To learn more about GPC's sustainability efforts, please contact Dr. Joanne Chu and read the Southeastern Institute for Sustainbility's mission / vision statement.
