Course Title Concert Attendance

Catalog Description
Students registering for any of the Music Theory courses must concurrently register for MUSC 1607 until four semesters of MUSC 1607 have been satisfactorily completed. To complete the course satisfactorily, the student must attend ten approved concerts during the semester in which the course is taken; of these, six must be events sponsored by the College's Fine Arts Department, except in instances that will present a severe hardship, in which cases the department chairperson may approve suitable substitutes. Students may receive only one concert credit for a concert in which they are performing that semester.

Expected Educational Results
As a result of completing this course, the student will be able to:
1. Be familiar with local performing organizations and venues.
2. Recognize various performing group combinations
3. Recognize differences of musical style
4. Recognize differences of timbre of instrument, voices and other various group combinations
5. Evaluate performance quality, either aurally or in written form
6. Formulate a basis of comparison for determining personal musical preferences
7. Appreciated and acquire physical and musical behaviors that contribute to successful concert atmosphere and performances.

A student who completes the requirements for Concert Attendance will be able to
1.    Recognize

§ Differences of vocal and/or instrumental timbre

§ Attendance of ten events for a grade of Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory.
§ Appropriate selection of concert events

Evaluation of course success:
o May reveal aspects of concert attendance that need revision
