Starting the Financial Aid Process
Completing your FAFSA
One of the most essential steps of the financial aid process is the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or what is commonly referred to as the FAFSA. Once the FAFSA has been completed, the information is processed by the United States Department of Education and the results are forwarded to schools listed on the Student Aid Report (SAR).
First Time GPC Filers:
The earlier you file your FAFSA, the more options for aid you will have. Our priority processing deadline for the FAFSA for the 2013-2014 academic year is April 1, 2013. The FAFSA is available for completion on the first day of the calendar year (January 1st). Keep in mind that your FAFSA will be used for the entire academic year. For example, the 2012-2013 FAFSA is used for Fall 2012, Spring 2013, and Summer 2013. The 2013-2014 FAFSA will be used from Fall 2013 to Summer 2014. If you have any questions as to which FAFSA to file, please contact our office at 678-891-3535.
Renewing your Application:
Once you have filed a FAFSA, the following years' application is much simpler. You will simply need to update your personal information and input current year tax information for you and your family. For 2013-2014 FAFSA you will need 2012 Tax information. You'll need to sign the FAFSA application using your PIN and ensure that Georgia Perimeter College (001562) is selected as a school of your choice. Once we receive your Student Aid Report from the Department of Education, we will begin processing your aid.

Financial Aid Processing Timeframe
Financial Aid awards are made in the order in which files are completed. Some students are randomly selected for verification by the Department of Education and will be required to submit additional documents (parent/student’s IRS tax transcripts, verification worksheet, etc.).
The normal processing time for selected students is 2 – 4 weeks from the date that the last document is submitted; however, it might be slightly longer during peak periods. If students’ files are not complete, or they have not been awarded financial aid at the time of registration, students must be prepared to pay for their classes out of their own resources.
Pell Lifetime Eligibility Limit
Due to a change in federal regulations of Federal Student Aid, the Pell Grant Program has been revised to limit the amount of terms that a student may receive the Pell Grant in his/her academic history. The new regulations states that a student may receive up to 12 semesters or its equivalent of 600% of Pell Grant during his/her entire award history.
To view your Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU), you can log on using your Federal Student Aid PIN to National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS®) to view your LEU. The LEU will be found on the Financial Aid Review page.
