Starting the Financial Aid Process

Completing your FAFSA

One of the most essential steps of the financial aid process is the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or what is commonly referred to as the FAFSA. Once the FAFSA has been completed, the information is processed by the United States Department of Education and the results are forwarded to schools listed on the Student Aid Report (SAR).

First Time Georgia State University Perimeter College Filers:

The earlier you file your FAFSA, the more options for aid you will have. Our priority processing deadline for the FAFSA for the 2016-2017 academic year is April 1, 2016. The FAFSA is available for completion on the first day of the calendar year (January 1st.) Keep in mind that your FAFSA will be used for the entire academic year. For example:

  • The 2015-2016 FAFSA is used for Fall 2015, Spring 2016, and Summer 2016 and the school code to use is 001562.

  • The 2016-2017 FAFSA will be used for Fall 2016, Spring 2017, and Summer 2017 and the New school code to use is 001574.

If you have any questions as to which FAFSA to file, please contact our office at 678-891-3535.

Renewing your Application:

Once you have filed a FAFSA, the following years’ application is much simpler. You will simply need to update your personal information and input current year tax information for you and your family. For 2016-2017 FAFSA you will need 2015 Tax information. You’ll need to sign the FAFSA application using your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) and ensure that Georgia State University (001574) is selected as a school of your choice. Once we receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Department of Education, we will begin processing your aid.
