Scholarships for Current and Former English as a Second Language Students
I. Beverly Benson Scholarship
Criteria: Awarded to a former or current English as a Second Language (ESL) student. The award is based on length of time
in ESL, progress through ESL, GPA and obstacles overcome in persevering to continue his/her education. Nominations must
come from ESL faculty.
GPA: 3.0
Scholarship amount: $150 for tuition, fees, books and living expenses

II. Cheryl Benz Community Service Scholarship for ESL and International Students
Criteria: Current or past ESL student should submit, with completed application, documentation of a minimum of 25 hours
of community service or of completion of a course with a service learning component, a typed, one-page (double-spaced) essay
describing how community service/service learning has affected his/her education, and one letter of recommendation from faculty,
mentor or employer.
GPA: 2.0 Scholarship amount: $250 for tuition, fees, books and living expenses

III. Elisabeth Lauteman Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Clarkston Campus student who has completed at least one semester of ESL and is a parent with financial need should
submit, with completed application, a most recent transcript, a letter of support from a member of GPC faculty and most recent
tax return.
GPA: N/A
Scholarship amount: $250 for tuition, fees, books and living expenses
Application deadline: March 31

Scholarship for International Students
I. Kito Christian Shane McCurdy Memorial Scholarship for International Students
Criteria: International student (F-1 student) on the Dunwoody Campus who is currently enrolled in 12 or more semester
hours, has completed at least 15 credit hours at GPC and has at least one semester left to complete should submit, with
completed application, a statement of financial need, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member and a copy of the most
recent transcript. Recipients may receive this scholarship only once.
GPA: 2.7
Scholarship amount: $300 for tuition, fees, books and living expenses

Scholarship for Nursing Student of Asian Descent
I. National Association of Chinese Americans (NACA) Scholarship
Criteria: Nursing student of Asian descent who has successfully completed the first semester of the Nursing Program and a NET
score at the national average and is fluent or reasonably proficient in the (spoken) Chinese language should submit, with completed
application, two letters of recommendation (one from a member of the GPC faculty and one from elsewhere), a copy of his/her
most recent FAFSA or SAR report and most recent tax returns and an essay of 200 words or less explaining why he/she has
chosen the nursing profession. Please use the Nursing scholarship application.
GPA: 3.0
Scholarship amount: $2,500 for tuition, fees, books and living expenses
Application period: November 25 - December 5

Study Abroad Scholarships
I. Acces Asia Study Abroad Scholarship
Criteria: A GPC student who intends to study abroad in Asia through GPC and has completed at least one academic
year at Georgia Perimeter College. Students applying for the Access Asia scholarship should have submitted their
application to study abroad in Asia in full along with their $200 deposits. Applicants must submit a completed
Access Asia application form, a brief essay (300 words) explaining what impact they expect studying in Asia to have on
their lives and careers, and a written explanation of their financial need for the scholarship (no word limit).
GPA: 2.7
Scholarship Amount: up to $500
Application Deadline: January 16th, July 3rd and November 14th

II. Aleyama George Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Student who is registered for at least nine credit hours in the Study Abroad Program to India should submit an unofficial
transcript and one letter of recommendation from a former or current professor, employer or mentor.
GPA: 2.0
Scholarship amount: $250 for tuition, fees, books and living expenses
Application deadline: February 15

III. Gilman International Scholarship Program
Criteria: The applicant must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of their study abroad. The applicant is applying to or has been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's accredited institution of higher education in the U.S.
The applicant is studying abroad for at least 4 weeks (equivalent to 28 days) in one country. Programs going to more than one country are eligible if the student will be studying in one country for at least 4 weeks. The applicant is studying abroad in any country except Cuba or a country on the State Department's current Travel Warning list. The applicant is studying in the fall, spring, or academic year terms including winter inter-sessions. Summer only programs are not eligible.
Scholarship Amount: Up to $5000

IV. Boren Awards for International Study
Criteria: Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American, and the Middle East.
Boren Scholarships are funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), which focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. Applicants should identify how their study abroad program, as well as their future academic and career goals, will contribute to U.S. national security, broadly defined. NSEP draws on a broad definition of national security, recognizing that the scope of national security has expanded to include not only the traditional concerns of protecting and promoting American well-being, but also the challenges of global society, including sustainable development, environmental degradation, global disease and hunger, population growth and migration, and economic competitiveness.
Scholarship Amount: Up to $20,000
