Overview:
The Department of Public Safety is responsible for providing a safe and secure educational environment for the entire Georgia Perimeter College community. We are a recognized Police Department within the State of Georgia and we are comprised of an Administrative Division and Field Services Division.

There are 50 Sworn Police Officers, 38 Security Officers, 11 Communication Officers and 6 Clerical Staff for a total of 105 full time personnel and an additional 26 part-time personnel within the Department of Public Safety.  Departmental personnel are assigned to five campuses of the College (Alpharetta, Clarkston, Decatur, Dunwoody & Newton). All Patrol Division employees work under the direction of a Campus Police Lieutenant. The Public Safety Director is the overall administrator of the department and reports to the Executive Vice President for Financial & Administrative Affairs.

Authority & Jurisdiction:
Georgia Perimeter College Police Officers are certified as Peace Officers by the State of Georgia under the provisions of the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (GA. POST) 35-8-2 (8) (A) "Peace Officer" and possess arrest powers under code section 17-4-1 within their jurisdiction under code section 20-3-72 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (OCGA). Jurisdiction for Georgia Perimeter College Police Officers extends to any and all property owned, leased or rented for College use. Authority is also extended outside of these properties by 500 yards.

All departmental personnel enforce college policy as well as parking regulations on campus. Georgia Perimeter College Police enforce state laws, county ordinances and conduct criminal and traffic investigations for all offenses occurring within the school's jurisdiction. 

Georgia Perimeter College security officers have the same arrest powers as a citizen of Georgia, i.e., the power to make arrests for misdemeanors and felonies committed in the presence of the guard or within the guards' immediate knowledge. All personnel are trained to handle emergencies and will coordinate medical and fire services that are requested on all five campuses.
