Why Should my Students Participate in Dual Enrollment?
The Dual Enrollment Program at Georgia Perimeter College offers qualified high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take college courses and earn dual credit for high school and college. Dual Enrollment introduces the students to a college which values small classes and individualized instruction. Offering superior college instruction to high school students and strengthening the relationship between Georgia Perimeter College and high school communities are primary goals of the Dual Enrollment Program.
Former Dual Enrollment students have reported that taking Georgia Perimeter College courses made their eventual transition from high school to college easier.
"The skills in writing learned in the program and the confidence gained here as a JE student were the “turning point” intellectually that enabled me to excel in the Honors Program at UGA.
This was a very helpful class that made me think differently about college. I’m glad I had this experience, or I may have had a very rough freshman year."
Added to the academic advantages of the Dual Enrollment Program are the economic ones. HOPE Scholarship funding through Accel pays tuition, some mandatory fees, and provides a modest book stipend for eligible high school students who are admitted to the Program. And by completing core college courses before high school graduation, students and their families gain further financial savings by reducing the time required for earning their bachelor’s degrees.
