What is the name of GPC's emergency notification system?

The GPC emergency notification system is entitled JagAlert.

What is the system's main function?

JagALERT is an emergency broadcast system which notifies current students, faculty and staff about time-sensitive emergencies on or around GPC campuses via home phone, cell phone (voice and text message) and email.

What is considered a JagALERT emergency?

Emergency notifications may include, but are not limited to:
•Severe weather (i.e., tornado warnings)
•Bomb threats or other imminent violent threats
•Natural disasters (i.e., fire, gas leaks, hazardous spills)
•Building evacuations
•Campus closure due to an emergency

What message will I hear to notify me of a JagALERT emergency?

This system will be used to distribute information regarding emergencies that dictate immediate action; such as a tornado warning, need to evacuate or other threatening situations or emergencies. The message will tell you what action to take and where to get more information. Following a warning, the alert system may be used to provide additional messages or an "all clear" announcement. JagALERT will also be tested on a routine basis. Less urgent messages will be sent using the college email system.

Where can I receive additional information?

Emergency updates will be provided through JagALERT notifications, posted on the GPC Web site crawl that appears at the top of every GPC Web page and the GPC Public safety Web site.

How do I notify Public Safety officials of an impending emergency?

If you see or hear of a potential emergency situation which affects the GPC community, please contact the GPC Office of Public safety at 770-274-5511 in order for them to initiate the proper emergency response.

Who is included in the JagALERT database?

All active Georgia Perimeter College faculty and staff and students who have a current ID.

How do I verify my contact information?

If you are a student, log onto the Student Information System (SIS) and make sure that your contact information is up to date. If you are a faculty or staff member, log onto the ADP Faculty and Staff Portal and make sure your information is correct. Faculty & Staff MUST enter their cellular phone under "Cellular Phone 1" to receive emergency text notifications. (Note: Faculty and staff members who have been students at GPC or who are currently students will need to update their employee address with the ADP Faculty and Staff Portal and their Student address in SIS.)

How often do I need to verify my contact information?

Anytime your contact information changes.

What contact phone numbers should I enter?

Permanent home; cell phone; emergency contact.

Can I include "long distance" phone numbers?

The system will accommodate long distance phone numbers within the U.S. but will not accept international phone numbers.

How soon will I receive JagALERT emergency messages after I verify my contact information?

Based on the information already resident within the GPC system, you can receive messages immediately. The system is updated daily to accommodate changes to individual contact information.

Will I receive confirmation after I have signed up to receive emergency text messages?

Yes. A confirmation message will be sent to your cell phone within 48 hours.

Some cell phone providers charge for SMS text messages. Can I opt out of the system?

During Phase I of the deployment no one will be able to opt out of the system. The plan is that there will be one test message sent out at the start of the semester and other messages only in the event of an emergency. The system will not be used for marketing messages for campus activities and ConnectEd, the system provider, does not have access to send out messages to the Georgia Perimeter College community.

When Phase II of the system is implemented, then students, faculty and staff will have the option to opt out of non-campus e-mail addresses and non-campus phone numbers. At that time, there will also be the option to opt in for SMS messaging for campus emergencies and designate a primary and secondary location in the event of a localized emergency.

What phone number will show up in my caller ID when a warning is issued?

The phone number that you will see in your caller ID will be 678-891-2901. You should program this number into your phone so it will immediately recognize it when you receive an emergency-related message.

From what number will these text messages display?

You will see the seven letter code jagalrt sending you the confirmation message and all subsequent messages. Please save this number and program it as something recognizable so that you can quickly recognize this number as the official source of GPC emergency messages.

I am a T-Mobile customer. Do I require extra steps to receive a text message?

If you are a T-Mobile subscriber and you have selected the text messaging option, you will receive the following automated confirmation text message:
You have requested to receive alerts from Georgia Perimeter College. Please reply yes to subscribe.

Then you will receive the following:
You are now confirmed to receive alerts from us. For more info, text reply "HELP" or "STOP (Georgia Perimeter College code)" to opt out.

Please be aware that this message will be coming from a seven letter code and that standard text messaging fees will apply.

Will my contact information remain secure?

The information you supply is considered confidential and will not be shared with anyone. You will only be contacted through this system in the event of an emergency.
