Calling All Fans of "The Force"
For Immediate Release
Calling all light saber enthusiasts and fans of “The Force.”
Audiences can look to the stars and planets –and enjoy unique concerts featuring both familiar and otherworldly music—during two Atlanta Science Festival presentations at Georgia Perimeter College’s Dunwoody Campus, 2101 Womack Road, Dunwoody.
On Tuesday, March 25, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., GPC astronomy professor Jay Dunn will present “Symphony of the Stars,” featuring music from the classic John Williams’ “Star Wars” score. Along with this stirring music, Dunn will take listeners on a planetology show of the worlds of Star Wars and our own solar system and those of neighboring stars. The event is free and will take place in the NC-1100 auditorium. “Star Wars’ costumes are encouraged.
Also on the GPC Dunwoody Campus on Thursday, March 27: Enjoy an out-of-this-world concert with “Dance of the Planets” from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. GPC art instructor and Atlanta artist Claire Paul, will lead a discussion about the planetary electromagnetic sounds of Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus recorded by NASA’s Voyager I and Voyager II space probes. These eerie and out-of-this world sounds will be accompanied by a performance art piece by Paul and GPC students and a talk from members of the campus astronomy club. The event will be in Building A, Room 2200.
Both events are just two of many programs being held across Georgia Perimeter College and at other metro Atlanta sites as part of the Atlanta Science Festival March 22-29.
The first event of its kind in the metro area, the Atlanta Science Festival is a weeklong celebration of local science and technology that will culminate with an all-day interactive Exploration Expo at Centennial Olympic Park. Scientists, experts and educators from local schools, colleges, universities, museums, and corporations will uncover mysteries and explain discoveries in hands-on activities, facility tours, presentations, and performances at venues across the city. The festival is produced by a collaboration of science, cultural, and educational institutions, led by Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and the Metro Atlanta Chamber.
