Georgia Perimeter College professors Marjorie Lewkowicz and Kyle Barbieri have been rated two of the top community college professors in the nation by RateMyProfessors.com, the largest online destination for college professor ratings by students.

Both professors ranked in the top 25 and both teach at Dunwoody Campus. Lewkowicz, who teaches math, ranked fifth. Barbieri, who teaches political science, is ranked 16th.

According to Lewkowicz, she is motivated by students who won’t give up. “The credit goes to all of the hardworking, highly motivated and determined GPC students,” she said. “I am constantly inspired by my students, who often face hardships and adversity, but continue to strive to continue their education.”

Barbieri was surprised and delighted by the recognition. “I feel honored that so many of my students took time out of their day to rate my teaching ability, as well as to share how much they valued and enjoyed the class in general,” he said. “It is nice to feel appreciated for doing something you love—teaching!”

RateMyProfessors.com is a review site, which allows college, university students and anonymous people to assign ratings to professors of American, Canadian, and British institutions. The site was originally launched as TeacherRatings.com in 1999 and converted to RateMyProfessors in 2001.

Raters rank the course and/or professor on a 1-5 scale in the several categories, including “helpfulness,” “clarity” and the degree of “textbook use” in the course. The rater also may include comments of up to 350 characters in length.

Students raved about the professors.

“I really wish there were more professors like Dr. Lewkowicz! extremely blessing to have her as a professor! she makes sure you understand everything so clear before moving on the next subject,” one student wrote.

On Barbieri, another student wrote, “He is a wonderful teacher because he makes you understand the material. You have to apply yourself if you want a grade because he will not just give it to you.”
