They’ll lay paths, make meals for shut-ins, clear invasive plants and mulch gardens. On Monday, Jan. 21, Georgia Perimeter College students, faculty and staff are fanning out across the metro Atlanta area as part of the college’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service event. Dubbed, “Stand Up and Serve,” more than 300 volunteers are expected to turn out at the 15 different sites, from Alpharetta to Covington, Ga.
This is the fourth year the college has committed a day of service to commemorate Dr. King, but the college's EDGE office provides opportunities for students to volunteer in the community year-round.
The MLK Day of Service is funded in part by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that strengthens communities through service. For information on sign up sites still available, go to http://gpc.edu/mlk.
