How to be financially healthy—and how your health can affect your finances—are the topics of two different financial responsibility events sponsored by the business and social science departments on Georgia Perimeter College's Decatur and Newton campuses.

On Thursday, March 28, the Decatur Business Department, the Alpha Beta Gama Business Club and the Student Government Association will host “Financial Responsibility Day” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in room SF 2100.

Keynote speaker is Christa Cook, former partner at the accounting firm, Deloitte and Touche, LLP. Cook's talk at 9 a.m. will focus on living within one’s means. Her talk is followed by Al Parker, with the Society of Financial Education and Professional Development. Parker will give three sessions on financial planning, including creating a budget for personal success; making credit scores work for you, and banking and investing. A light lunch will be served after Parker’s talk.

Have questions on “Obamacare” or just want to learn about being healthy and saving money? On Wednesday, April 3, students on GPC’s Newton Campus will learn how finances and good health are tied together during  the  “Wallet and Wellness” sessions.

Speakers include Covington investment expert Royce Baker of the Edward Jones Company and ex-NFL football player Lorne Sam. Sam, a professional trainer, will speak about the importance of developing healthy lifestyle habits and the costs of poor health. The day also feature experts from both the Centers for Disease Control  and the Georgia Department of Public Health

Lee McKinley, interim director for the college’s new Health Informatics department, will talk about the importance of maintaining confidentiality of personal health records—and keeping track of your own health records. All sessions are free will be in the GPC Newton Auditorium, building N-1100.
