UK and Sandersville Elementary Host Family Engineering Night

The University of Kentucky chapter of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), based in the UK College of Education, collaborated with Sandersville Elementary School in Lexington to host a free Family Engineering Night on April 17 at the the school. Family Engineering Night is a program that brings students, parents and educators together to engage in problem solving and critical thinking with exciting hands-on activities.

Faculty members from universities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia will at the University of Kentucky College of Education for the 15th Annual OSF Faculty Development Fellowship Program Spring Conference.

Tice Authors New Book, To Give Lecture

Karen Tice, associate professor in the UK College of Education Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation, recently authored her new book, “Queens of Academe: Beauty Pageantry, Student Bodies, and Campus Life,” published by Oxford University Press.

College Represented at Upcoming AERA Convention

UK College of Education faculty and students will be presenting at the 2012 American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Clasey Honored by the Louisville Science Center

In Kentucky, Jody Clasey has been fighting the war on obesity as director of the Pediatric Exercise Physiology Lab (PEP-Lab) housed in the UK College of Education. Through this work, her involvement with the Louisville Science Center (LSC) and her commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education, Clasey was honored as a 2011 Ambassador of Science Literacy by the LSC in January.

NSF Awards $1.3 Million for Science and Engineering After School Program

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded the School of Education at Virginia Tech and the College of Education at the University of Kentucky $1.3 million to implement and evaluate an inquiry-based after school program for middle school students in rural Appalachia.

Rostosky Co-Authors Book Giving a Positive View of LGBTQ Identities

It started with a simple question, then grew into a large online survey with responses from more than 1,000 people from across the U.S. and abroad. A new book by Ellen Riggle and Sharon Rostosky, “A Positive View of LGBTQ: Embracing Identity and Cultivating Well-Being," explores what’s positive about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer identities.

College of Education Co-Sponsors 3rd Annual STEM Symposium

The Third Annual STEM Symposium: Connecting STEM Education Across the Bluegrass State was held Friday, February 3, 2012. The event was co-sponsored by the University of Kentucky Colleges of Education, Engineering, Arts & Sciences, Agriculture, Communications and Medicine, the UK Office of the Provost, and the Partnership Institute for Mathematics and Science Education Reform (PIMSER).
