Introduction

In this webquest, you will learn about universal instructional design (UID). Each of us learns and responds to instruction in different ways. We have different cognitive abilities and levels of those abilities. These form our cognitive controls, cognitive styles, learning styles, and personality differences.

UID is a process to design and develop instruction in a way that maximizes access to instruction by learners with wide varieties and levels of these differences and that minimizes barriers to instruction and learning. The need for special accommodations is greatly reduced because a course is designed from the start to be inclusive and to accommodate as many individual differences as possible while not compromising the academic integrity of the course. (Note: Some web sites in this webquest use other terms for UID such as Universal Design for Learning.)
