How does Precalculus online work?
You will be able to complete homework, quizzes, and some other assessments from your home PC, or any computer with Internet access and the downloadable software. You are required to take the final exam at a GPC Testing Center (or at a Testing Center of an accredited college near you). Details are provided in the course syllabus. For a normal semester, you will have two to three sections of the textbook to complete each week. There will be five tests, required discussion posts, online homework and other assignments, and a proctored final exam.
How is the course set up?
My course will have 2 components: A iCollege component and a WebAssign component.
iCollege includes email, discussion boards, live classrooms and chat rooms. I also have supplementary materials (e.g., videos and notes for each section of the course, test reviews, quiz & test solutions) in iCollege. Tests will be taken in iCollege.
The WebAssign component is a software package where the graded homework will be completed. It also provides you access to the eboook and other resources: videos made by the publisher and interactive homework tutorials.
What materials are required? See Required Materials for ISBN's.
(1) Enhanced WebAssign Student Access code. You must purchase the access code prior to enrolling in the WebAssign component of the course. The course key to enroll in the appropriate WebAssign course is available in the syllabus in iCollege.
(2) TI-84 or TI-83 Graphing Calculator. The methods to use the graphing calculator will be shown throughout this course. It is expected that you know how to use the calculator upon completing this course. You are required to have access to a TI-84 or a TI-83. A TI-89 or TI-92 calculator is not permitted for this course. Tests will be designed so that the graphing calculator is required on some problems.
(3) Textbook: Precalculus, Mathematics for Calculus, Fifth Edition by Stewart, Redin, and Watson (2007), Brooks/Cole Cengage Learning.
You may choose to use the electronic version of the textbook available in WebAssign rather than purchasing the hardcopy of the textbook. If you purchase a new textbook at the GPC Online Warehouse, it should be bundled with the WebAssign passcode for no additional charge. It is called Precalculus (Enh Web Ed).
