  • General Information for Math 0098 Online

How does this Math 0098 online class work?
You will be able to complete homework, quizzes and some tests from your home computer, or any computer with internet access and the downloadable software.
You will be required to take a midterm and final exam on campus.  Details are provided in the course syllabus.  In addition, you are required to take the COMPASS Exit Exam at a GPC Testing Center or at an ACT Official Testing Site near you.  Please note that you may be required to pay a fee for testing at off-campus sites.

You will cover two to three sections of the textbook each week.  There will be weekly quizzes plus two exams in addition to the final exam. (Subject to change - see the course syllabus for exact course requirements)

How is the course set up?
My course has 2 components: An iCollege component and a MyMathLab component.

iCollege includes email, discussion boards, live classrooms and chat rooms. Supplementary materials (e.g., video & audio files, worksheets, quiz & exam solutions) are also available in iCollege. Familiarize yourself with iCollege by completing the student orientation and making sure you have the necessary plug-ins on your computer.

The MyMathLab component is integrated into your iCollege course. It provides access to materials created by the publisher of the textbook. It is also where the graded homework will be completed.

What materials do you need?  See the Online Math Website for ISBN's.
    (1)  MyMathLab Access code for WebCT.  The MyMathLab code gives you access to the online homework, the eBook, and other publisher resources. You will be able to log into iCollege for 15 days without the access code. After the 15 days, you are required to enter an access code to enter iCollege.

    (2)  TI-84 or TI-83 Graphing Calculator. The methods to use the graphing calculator will be shown throughout this course.  It is expected that you know how to use the calculator upon completing this course.  You are required to have access to a TI-84 or a TI-83.

    (3)  (OPTIONAL) Textbook: Beginning and Intermediate Algebra (4th edition) by Lial, Hornsby, & McGinnis (2008).
If you choose to use the electronic version of the textbook that is available online with the code, you do not need to purchase a hardcopy of the textbook.  If you purchase a new textbook, it comes with a MyMathLab access kit at no additional charge.
