Sarah Larson founded The Polishing Cloth in 1984. An annual reception honors the student writers, and awards are given to three students whose essays are judged best in category. Faculty members are asked to submit the best writing from their classes for the next edition. The editorial board consists of Reggie Abbott, Elizabeth Cranford, Valerie Crawford, Michael Diebert, Sherry Durren, Hank Eidson, Barbara Hall, Michael Hall, Lita Hooper-Simanga, Patty Howell, Ken Johnson, Patricia Knowles, Sarah Larson, Kari H. Miller, Stuart Noel, Sharifa Saa, Janet Shanteau, Tamara Shue, Kim Sisson, Brad Tucker, and Ted Wadley.
