Beginning this fall, The Honors College will be participating in USF’s new Global Citizenship Program General Education (GCP). This is an innovative program designed for new first year (freshman) students who have an interest in global issues and who may consider careers related to international health issues, economic development, environmental and cultural sustainability, international law and human rights. Pre med, pre law, political science, business, public health, arts and humanities, international studies majors and others may be excited about having expertise in global issues.
Here’s the ‘scoop’:
You’ll take one globally oriented Honors College course per semester for your first two USF years and receive your regular Honors scholarship for each of those courses.
You’ll study abroad in the summer following your second year and we’ll give you $2000 for that purpose!! Then, you’ll take one globally oriented Honors course in the fall of your third year to tie it all together.
Upon graduation, your transcript will reflect that you received a Certificate in Global Citizenship. Graduate and professional schools will be impressed as will prospective employers.
Participation in GCP should not affect course load or time to graduation. The Honors courses you’ll take in the GC program will meet University General Education requirements; one or two may serve as electives towards graduation.
Please think about this program; it will be fun, interesting and could well provide you with a “competitive edge”. Let me know if you think this might be for you. you are not making a commitment but we can talk further if you wish.
