Advisement - Sorrell College of Business

Advisement

Student Advisement

Student advising is an important component of business education that is used to help support students as they develop degree plans and move through their programs. Upon declaration of a Business major, each student is assigned to a faculty advisor who is a specialist in that student’s area of interest. A permanent file is created that contains all advising forms and information until the student graduates.

Each student is required to meet with his/her advisor at least once per semester so that the advisor can track the student’s progress as well as discuss plans for moving through the program. Further, students should make appointments well ahead of registration times to facilitate easy access and full time with the advisor.

If a student needs to know the identity of the assigned advisor they can locate that information through the secretaries in Bibb Graves 200 or through the Trojan Web Express account. Valuable resources that are available to support advising and planning include the Freshman/Sophomore Curriculum Guide and the Undergraduate Bulletin, both of which can be found online or in hard copy.

Students are encouraged to get to know advisors early in their programs and to facilitate appropriate advising by keeping appointments and providing the necessary documents to help the advisor do a good job for you.
