RBM approach training

The introduction and application of Results-Based Management (RBM) has been one of the central elements of the Organization’s reform process. This has been affirmed by the Medium-Term Strategy (34 C/4), which defined RBM as essential for a culture of accountability expressed in terms of expected results, outcomes and impacts.

In order to assist in applying the RBM approach at UNESCO, training sessions, including coaching on results formulation, are delivered to UNESCO personnel, working in Programme Sectors, Central Services or Support Sectors at Headquarters, Field Offices or Category I Institutes. Member States can also benefit from these sessions.

The main objective is to reinforce the capacities of UNESCO staff to build a common understanding on the core principles, notions and concepts of RBM and how these apply when (re)programming, monitoring and reporting. This will ensure that UNESCO programming and monitoring documents, including work plans, are formulated and presented in line with UNESCO’s RBM approach and the Organization’s results chain.

Different types of training are offered: briefing or workshop sessions.

Briefing sessions are opened to personnel interested in an introductory course of half a day, during which the main RBM principles, concepts and notions are presented. They can be delivered individually or by group.

Workshops combine theoretical presentation and exercises to allow translating theory into practice when programming, monitoring and reporting. They are customized to the specific needs of units, divisions, Field Offices and Category I Institutes and vary from two to three days.
