October 21, 2011 - The Contest Concludes

It's over! IEEEXtreme 5.0 is over. Tired students from all over the world including 5 UAB Students have gone home to sleep after a grueling 24 hour coding contest. Results are not final yet but it appears that the UAB teams are in top 3rd of the participants. The UAB teams found the problems challenging but solvable although they (and other participants) had problems with the limited feedback from the Mooshak contest tool. Congratulations and applause for our competitors. Thanks to Professors Vaughn, Marstrander, and Green for serving as Proctors.

October 20, 2011 - The Contest Begins

UAB IEEEextreme UAB IEEE Student Branch members are participating in the 24 hour IEEEXtreme 5.0 programming contest. The branch is fielding two teams:

  1. Team 1: Devin Sanders, Ihsan Hakima, and Christopher Dees
  2. Team 2: Kristen Hammack, and Sarah Clarke

There are 1,510 teams. 4,022 IEEE student members from 65 countries will be participating in IEEEXtreme 5.0. The contest has a FaceBook page for those who want to follow the contest. Good luck to both teams!

April 22, 2011 - EE499 Team Wins Top Honors at UAB Expo

TheGreenMachine at UABExpo The EE499 teams presented their efforts today at the UABExpo held in the Campus Recreation Center. The groups prepared large posters illustrating the contest and their efforts as well as brought their working robotic cars and videos. TheGreenMachine team consisting of Beau Keel, Marwan Douban, Pooja Puranikk, and Jared Stanbridge received first prize in the Engineering Category as well as the overall recognition as the "Most Visually Stimulating Presentation". Congratulations to the group for their successful efforts!

March 19, 2011 - UAB Students at SoutheastCon 2011

The UAB Team was one of about 35 schools at SoutheastCon 2011 in Nashville, TN. The group participated in the hardware contest, software contest, t-shirt design contest, and website contest. The UAB T-Shirt design was selected as the #2 entry. The hardware contest team distinguished themselves by their professionalism as well as in having 2 of the top 5 cars from a technical performance standpoint.

March 9, 2011 - UAB Student Branch Elects New Officers

The UAB Student Branch has elected its officers for academic year 2011-2012. They are

Vice Chair Jamal Thornton
Secretary Brandon Marshall
Treasurer Tarun Bohra

Congratulations to these students who are volunteering to carry the branch forward into next year. The students will officially take office 1 June 2011.
