1/30/2012 - Heartland top copiah-Lincoln behind Burge's three hits, 10-1
Danielle Burge clubbed two home runs as she carried Heartland to a 10-1 win over Copiah-Lincoln in game two at Copiah-Lincoln in five innings. Heartland blew out co-Lin thanks to 13 hits, including seven extra base hits. Heartland scored four runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Brittiany Tjarks, a sacrifice fly by Kate Mayes, and a two-run home run by Burge.
Susan Goetze handled Copiah-Lincoln's lineup with ease, racking up six strikeouts. Heartland's pitcher allowed one earned run, three hits and three walks over five innings. Heartland was sparked by Christina Beam, Burge, and Mayes, who teamed up for eight hits and nine RBIs. Heartland jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A double by Beam, scoring Lindsey Stevens started the inning off.
The lead stayed with Heartland after the third, when it scored two runs on a two-run home run by Burge. Heartland tacked on another three runs in the fourth. Mayes' triple got things going, plating Amber Seiler that was followed up by Burge's double, bringing home Mayes.
1/30/2012 - Copiah-Lincoln tops Heartland in back-and-forth affair, 4-3
Copiah-Lincoln and Heartland volleyed the lead four times on Monday in game one, but Co-Lin came out on top for a 4-3 win on Monday at Copiah. Copiah-Lincoln finally managed to grab the lead after a strong seventh inning. Lindsey Stevens racked up two RBIs on two hits for Heartland. Stevens tripled in the fifth inning. K. Smith racked up two RBIs on two hits for Lincoln-Copiah. K. smith homered in the third inning and singled in the sixth inning. Beth Wilson was strong on the mound, throwing strikes on 71 of her 103 pitches. Wilson struck out ten and walked two for Heartland.
1/29/2012 - Heartland outmuscled by Chipola, 12-4
Despite Lindsey Stevens's 2-4 performance at the plate on Sunday, Heartland took a 12-4 loss at the hands of Chipola at LSU. Kelsie Kuhlmann kept Chipola off balance while she was on the rubber. Chipola managed just three hits off of the Heartland's pitcher, who allowed two earned runs, walked one and struck out three during her 3 1/3 innings of work.
1/29/2012 - Heartland falls 11-3 to LSU - Eunice despite Burge's effort
Despite seven hits, Heartland lost 11-3 to LSU - Eunice on Sunday at LSU. Heartland was paced by the production of Danielle Burge, who reached base three times. She also drove in one runner. Burge singled in the fifth inning. Tina Schultz racked up five RBIs on two hits for LSU - Eunice. Schultz homered in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning. Susan Goetze went toe-to-toe with the defending national champs as she allowed only two earned runs. Her ERA after two games is a scant 1.75. Six errors which led to nine unearned runs put the game out of reach late.
1/28/2012 - Heartland uses big fifth inning to beat San Jacinto, 8-2
Heartland took down San Jacinto 8-2 on Saturday at LSU after slamming San Jacinto with five runs in the fifth inning. Audrey Butler went a perfect 2-2 at the plate for Heartland. Butler singled in the third and seventh innings. She also added two walks.
Susan Goetze was a workhorse on the rubber for Heartland. Goetze allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks while striking out four. The mistakes that plagued Heartland in game one were nowhere to be found as the defense tightened up, allowing only one error.
1/28/2012 - Heartland took a 11-3 loss at the hands of LSU - Eunice at LSU
Heartland falls 11-3 to LSU - Eunice despite Lindsey Williams's 2-2 performance at the plate on Saturday. The top of the first saw Heartland take an early lead, 2-0. A two-run blast by Danielle Burge, bringing home Christina Beam started the inning off. LSU - Eunice didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the first inning when it scored on 2 errors and a wild pitch.
LSU - Eunice piled on five more runs in the bottom of the second. Eunice's Simon kicked things off with a single, plating Lauren Slusher that was followed up by an error that scored Brook Ort. One run in the top of the third helped Heartland close its deficit to 8-3. A home run by Williams sparked Heartland's rally. Lindsey Stevens grounded out to end the Heartland threat. LSU - Eunice increased its lead with three runs in the third. A clutch ground out scored Ort to set the tone for the inning. That was followed up by Tina Schultz's single, scoring Simon.
Beth Wilson was effective in the circle, but 6 errors and a host of mental mistakes doomed her effort.
