Spring Time on the Pier: Chicago Flower & Garden Show
Experience the beauty of the 2011 Flower and Garden Show as it returns to the amazing city of Chicago. Navy Pier will be abloom with intricately designed theme-gardens and realistic garden displays that can translate into your own yard, deck or balcony. For lunch you will board the Spirit of Chicago for an afternoon of entertainment, sightseeing and food! This 2 hour lunch cruise upon the contemporary Spirit of Chicago offers 4 levels of seating, indoor and outdoor options available, and the best skyline views from the largest picture windows of any ship on Navy Pier. You will have time to explore the Flower and Garden Show and Navy Pier on your own before and after lunch. Your trip includes admission to the Flower and Garden Show, Boat Cruise, three course lunch and transportation to and from Navy Pier. Frank Lloyd Wright - Hyde Park & More
American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright believed that beautifully designed buildings could make a difference in our lives. On this EDventure you’ll have the chance to experience some of his first architectural masterpieces, some of which are located in Hyde Park and surrounding areas. Upon your arrival you’ll experience a first-hand interior tour of Wright’s Frederick C. Robie House, considered one of the most important buildings in contemporary American architecture. Next, you’ll visit the architecturally rich University of Chicago campus and Japanese Garden in Jackson Park which had great impact on Wrights designs. You’ll also see many of his other homes in the area on foot and from the comfort of our bus; The Heller House, MacArthur House and Blossom House (subject to change), as your personal guide Bill Hincliff shares his knowledge and perspective on Wright’s life and contributions. Broadway in Chicago Presents: CATS
The show that revolutionized musical theatre, CATS, is coming to Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre for one week only! In October of 1991 CATS became the longest continuously touring show in American theatre history. Celebrating not only its Broadway touring legacy but the birth of the musical spectacular, CATS is still revolutionary and awe inspiring. Upon arrival in the city you will have a few hours of free to on your own to shop, eat lunch or tour the city before the matinee performance. The Wines of Central Illinois
Bring a little Napa Valley to Central Illinois and join Wine Enthusiast Scot Meece as he takes you and your friends on an exciting and educational EDventure of 3 of Central Illinois, finest Wineries. Your first stop will be Kickapoo Creek where you will receive a tour, a tasting, and lunch in their beautiful tasting room. The EDventure continues to Manito where you will make a stop at Willet’s Winery. Your stop here will include a souvenir glass as well as a tour of their facility and tasting of 6-8 different wines. Lastly, your EDventure makes one last stop at Mackinaw Valley where you will receive a guided tour of their facility, as well as one last tasting experience. You will enjoy cheese and crackers during the educational wine tasting seminar, before heading back to Heartland College, exhausted from a day of learning and fun. Get Your Kicks on Route 66
Join award winning author, John Weiss as he takes you on an exciting historical journey of Route 66! John will capture your mind with his amazing narration as he points out various landmarks and shares the stories of the nostalgic highway. Your tour will start in Pontiac where you will receive the red carpet treatment at the Route 66 Hall of Fame Museum complete with coffee and rolls. While in Pontiac, you will explore the picturesque Town Square, the War Museum and Route 66 photo display. You will also discover the Pontiac-Oakland Automobile Museum, the Waldmire Bus Home and have time on your own to shop in small town America. Your tour will continue through five additional Route 66 towns; stopping along the way to visit museums, view historical icons and enjoy some antique shopping. The Jewels of St. Louis
Join Heartland on a unique tour featuring the Jewels of St. Louis. You will begin the day with a visit and tour of the Fox Theater. It was opened in 1929 and it was justifiably billed as "St. Louis' largest and most magnificent temple of amusement.” Once a “talkie” movie theater, today it is home to some of Broadway’s biggest musicals, musicians, and comedians. Next you will take a driving tour through the Crown Jewel of St. Louis; Forest Park, home to the 1904 World’s Fair and many of St. Louis’ museums and the nationally recognized St. Louis zoo. From there, you will visit and tour the Cathedral Basilica. With its 84,000 hand-laid mosaic tiles, this Cathedral rivals those in Italy. Lunch will be provided at Favazza’s restaurant located in the Italian neighborhood known to locals as “The Hill.” You will dine on chicken parmesan, Italian salad, Italian bread & butter and cannoli for dessert. Your afternoon will conclude with a full brewery and stables tour at Anheuser Busch InBev Brewery.
