How can I find the information on hot topics I need?

  • CQ Researcher
    Great for hot topics or pro/con papers.
  • Points of View
    Contains pro/con essays, topic overviews, newspaper and magazine articles.

How do I find the background information I need for my research?

  • Encyclopedia Britannica
    Look up basic facts about a variety of topics. The site also links to dictionaries, Web sites and articles.
  • Encyclopedia of Animals
    Provides brief factual information about animals.
  • Funk and Wagnall's Encyclopedia
    An encyclopedia that gives general background information about a variety of topics.
  • Literary Reference Center
    A collection of works about authors and their books, including full-text journal articles, encyclopedia entries, plot summaries, criticisms, author biographies and some full-text books available through Project Gutenberg.
  • Oxford English Dictionary
    This dictionary offers a complete history of words--including when they were first used in publications, where possible.
  • World Almanac
    A great reference tool for short factual bits of information like statistics, calendars, lists and dates.
