Free Financial Aid Workshops for Students Feb. 25
The Illinois Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Heartland Community College and Illinois State University are working together to provide the College Awareness and Preparation (CAP) project as a means of improving students' and families' awareness of college financial aid opportunities, along with assisting in the college selection and admission process. As part of the project, Illinois’ financial aid community will sponsor two free financial aid workshops – the first at 10 a.m. and the second at 11 a.m. – Saturday, February 25 at Heartland Community College’s Workforce Development Center, located on the College’s Normal campus at 1500 W. Raab Rd. The workshops are open to the public and free of charge, and participants only need to attend one of the two available workshops.
Financial aid professionals will be available to assist families with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and answer related questions. Families should bring all completed or estimated 2011 income tax forms, along with any untaxed income information for students and parents, in order to complete the 2012-13 FAFSA. All students – including high school seniors, adults returning to college, and parents seeking help completing the FAFSA – will receive individual assistance from financial aid professionals during either workshop.
Anyone who is preparing to enroll in college this fall is encouraged to begin the financial aid application process as soon as possible. The FAFSA is available online for free www.fafsa.ed.gov. Completing the FAFSA accurately and on time is the first and most important step to obtaining state and federal student aid.
For more information about these workshops, call (309) 268-8020. For more information about Heartland Community College, visit www.heartland.edu.
