Training Programs

One of the Center's objectives is to improve the public and non-profit sectors performance through training and education, and it hosts a variety of programs to accomplish those ends.

Ongoing training programs:

The Elected Officials Academyis a semester long program which teaches new or experienced public servants about the responsibilities of elected and appointed officials in local government.  Participants in the program will develop professionally and learn how to better serve their communities.
The Center's Ohio & West Virginia Municipal Clerks Programtrains Municipal Clerks on the knowledge, skills and responsibilities necessary to serve their communities.  Being offered in cooperation with The International Institute ofMunicipal Clerks (IIMC) , the program allows Clerks to become certified by providing education and training in areas relating to their job responsibilities.
The Mayor's Court Clerks Professional Development Programis a program that operates in collaboration with the Education Committee of the Association of Mayor's Court Clerks of Ohio.  This program instills in Mayor's Court Clerks the ability to meet goals related to professional development, skill building, management, and legal issues.

Other educational programs:

Forums: The Center holds forums on a periodic basis that bring together key audiences to discuss important issues.
Webcasts:  The Center also participates in webcasts which enable governments to benefit from national programs and other valuable sources of information.  Future webcasts may include updates from the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA) and the Alliance for Innovation on topical issues effecting local government.
Contemporary Issues:  Education sessions are held on a periodic basis in the areas of E-Government, Intergovernmental Collaboration, Grants and Funding and other topical initiatives.
Tailored Education Programs:  The center will also design and develop tailored education programs for specific audiences.  Programs of this kind which have been delivered in the past include:
  • Effective Supervisory Instruction given to small groups
  • Organizational Communications
  • Municipal Charters: Opportunities and Pitfalls
  • Other tailored programs
