Eagles Guitarist Joe Walsh Funds First Talent-based Scholarship at Kent State (4/28/08)
Rock ‘n’ roll legend Joe Walsh, best known as a member of the megagroup The Eagles, has funded the first talent-based scholarship at Kent State University’s College of the Arts. Water Quality Expert to Launch Earth Day Fest Film on Healing River, April 20 (4/15/08)
A Kent State University expert in the vitality of fresh water ecosystems will speak at a screening of a film that describes the health history of the Cuyahoga River. Dr. Robert Heath, director of the Kent State University Water Resources Research Institute, will speak at the second annual “Who’s Your Mama?” Earth Day Festival, on Sunday, April 20.  Heath’s remarks will precede the screening of “The Return of the Cuyahoga,” an environmental film which takes a look at the life, death and rebirth of one of America’s most polluted rivers.

Visual Communication Design Best and Brightest Display Work (4/15/08)
The School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University will showcase the portfolios of its graduating seniors at an annual gallery show, culminating in a public reception. The senior portfolio exhibition, “The Art of Communication,” will be open in the Art Building Gallery on the Kent campus from April 15 through April 18. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kent State English Professor Nominated For Cleveland Arts Prize (4/14/08)
Roger Craik, associate professor of English at the Kent State University Ashtabula campus, was recently nominated for the Cleveland Arts Prize. Established in 1960, the Cleveland Arts Prize recognizes the accomplishments of mid-career fine artists with a connection to Northeast Ohio. Two prizes are awarded each year to artists who have received national, regional or local acclaim for their body of work. The public can nominate artists from the visual arts, music, dance, literature and design fields. It is the oldest award of its kind in the United States.

Two Kent State students placed fourth and ninth individually, which positioned the university to tie for seventh place overall out of 53 competing schools.

Urban Design Students Envision Ways to Reinvent Parma (3/28/08)
A Kent State University urban design studio class applied theoreticalconcepts and a healthy dose of imagination into a new vision for Parma, Ohio, an inner-ring suburb of 80,000 largely blue-collar residents. The class, “Parma 2.0: Re-thinking the Suburb”, took a typical working class American suburb which has been buffeted by economic and demographic changes, and unleashed on it the graduate students’ visions for improvements based largely on finding new uses for existing infrastructures with a radical twist.
