Special  Courses

POL 40992--Public Service

The Public Service course generally is used by students who have arranged an internship with a public agency (frequently, although not exclusively, at the local government level) or who are working on a political campaign.  In most cases, the student's grade is based on a paper applying the "theory" found in the relevant political science literature to the student's real-world experiences during the internship.  If you are interested you should contact either the Director of Undergraduate Studies, your advisor, or a member of the faculty with whom you would like to work in order to explore the possibilities of receiving credit for Public Service.  This course requires entering into a contract with the supervising faculty member.

POL 40996--Individual Investigation

Individual investigations generally are used when a student wants to explore in significant detail a topic which is not treated as part of a traditionally scheduled course.  In most cases, an in-depth research paper comprises the basis for the grade.  If you are interested you should contact either the Director of Undergraduate Studies, your advisor, or a member of the faculty with whom you would like to work in order to explore the possibilities of carrying out an Individual Investigation  This course requires entering into a contract with the supervising faculty member.
