Research and Graduate Studies | University Fellowships for Spring 2008

The Division of Research and Graduate Studies is requesting nominations for University Fellowships for 2008 Spring Semester

Award Details: Each doctoral department/school in the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Communication and Information, and the College of the Arts will be eligible for one University Fellowship; the Graduate School of Management may receive two awards, and the College of Nursing may receive one.  The Graduate School of Education, Health, and Human Services may receive its original two awards and one award for each of the following doctoral programs:  Exercise Physiology and Speech Pathology and Audiology.  Fellowships must be awarded to outstanding doctoral students admitted to candidacy, who will be registered only for Dissertation II during Fall 2007 and Spring 2008, and who are eligible to remain on appointment for both semesters
Award Guidelines: Doctoral students who have passed candidacy examinations and who are prepared to enroll for Dissertation II only may be nominated. The award recipient is subject to approval by the Vice President and Dean of Research and Graduate Studies and the Dean of the student's college. This award will follow the same format as in previous years. The University Fellow will receive a doctoral level service appointment for Fall 2007 (with a service commitment) and a nonservice University Fellowship appointment for Spring 2008. The University Fellow must be committed full time to dissertation research or writing. Any change in the student's status requires notification to the office of Research and Graduate Studies.

The stipend for Fall 2007 will be one-half an academic year doctoral stipend (charged to the Teaching Fellowship or Graduate Assistantship budget of the department/school/college) and the stipend for Spring 2008, one-half an academic year doctoral stipend or up to $6,000, will be paid by Research and Graduate Studies. Departments with higher stipends will supplement the RAGS provided funding. Fees for dissertation registration during both semesters will be provided from the budget of the student's department/school/college.

Please ensure that the possible recipient of a University Fellowship understands that the only appropriate enrollment for the academic year 2007-2008 will be for the writing of a dissertation. The recipient will enroll in Dissertation II only for each of the two semesters.

Graduate Coordinators will guide the completion of the University Fellowship Nomination Forms for the doctoral students to be nominated from their units.(http://www.kent.edu/rags/upload/fellowship-2.pdf) These forms include:
