The Dr. Shirley J. Barton Endowed Scholarship
This Endowed Scholarship celebrates Dr. Shirley J. Barton’s 25th anniversary with the University as a professor and administrator in the Regional Campus system. Dr. Barton has a rich and varied history at Kent State University. She received her Masters of Business Education here over 30 years ago. In 1976, she returned to Kent State University as a professor of Business Technologies at the Tuscarawas Campus. After receiving her Ph.D. in 1985, Dr. Barton continued her career in the Regional Campus system as Director of Two-Year Technical Programs. She became Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Regional Campuses, in 1991, and was named Dean in 1997. She currently holds the position of Executive Dean, Regional Campuses. Dr. Barton champions students, encouraging them to take pride in their accomplishments. She challenges them, as well, to continue both their formal and informal education.

In a one or two page narrative, describe your goals for baccalaureate study and indicate how they derive from your work in the associate degree program. Also, explain your activities and leadership on campus and the part they have played in assuring your success. Write something about your family and community activities and provide an example of two situations that reveal your motivation, character, ability and potential.
Requirements:
- Recipient of a KSU technical associate degree
- Admission to study for a baccalaureate degree
- Excellent prior academic performance as evidenced by a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
- Demonstrated financial need (FAFSA required)
- Evidence of motivation, character, ability and potential
- Demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community.
