Office of University Planning and Research
Office of Institutional Research
The Office of Institutional Research serves the Northeastern University community in three critical ways:
- It maintains a repository of integrated data and information in both electronic and print formats, and publishes reports for internal and external use to describe various aspects of the university.
- It conducts analyses of existing data to inform policy and decision-making, and administers surveys to evaluate the experiences of university members, particularly students.
- It facilitates the strategic-planning process for the university in cooperation with the University Planning Council, which is chaired by the director of university planning and research. Together, the Office of University Planning and Research and the University Planning Council play a custodial role for the Action and Assessment Plan and the Annual Report Card, which track Northeastern's progress. The office also provides support and consultation for unit planning, as needed.
In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Office maintains a commitment to:
- Respond to requests for data and information in a timely manner.
- Ensure the availability, accuracy, comparability, consistency and utility of university data and information.
- Prepare and present exemplary research and reports that will set high standards for the Northeastern community.
- Protect the interests of human subjects in all research activities in accordance with federal regulations and university policies.
- Maintain security and confidentiality of sensitive data and information retained within the Office.
- Consult with a wide variety of individuals and groups on research, analysis and planning.
- Provide decision support to university leaders.
