Huskies On Ice

If you watched the women’s ice hockey events during the 2010 Winter Olympics, you likely spotted a few Northeastern Huskies.

Sophomore Florence Schelling and junior Julia Marty (pictured above) helped Switzerland skate into history with a fifth-place finish at the winter games. It was the highest the Swiss team has placed in Olympic women’s hockey.

Marty led the team in ice time overall, logging 136 minutes for the tourney. Schelling played goal in every game, stopping 160 out of 176 shots—the fourth-highest save percentage in the Olympics at the time of Switzerland’s last game.

Dave Flint, head coach for Northeastern’s women’s hockey team, served as assistant coach for the U.S. women’s hockey team, leading Team USA to a silver-medal finish. The Americans finished the tournament with a 4-1 record and outscored the opposition by a 40-4 margin.

“I am very proud to be part of this team, and I am very proud of all our players,” says Flint. “They have accomplished a lot and USA Women’s Hockey has taken great strides over the past three years.”
