The annual 8th Bde Ranger Challenge Competition was held at Pensacola Naval Air Station on 20-21 October 2006. The invitation included Army ROTC programs from the University of South Alabama, Auburn University, Auburn University at Montgomery, University of West Florida, and Tuskegee University.
The Jaguar Ranger Challenge team had won first place in this competition for the last three years. However, this year the University of South Alabama’s Jaguar Army ROTC Battalion came in second place behind Auburn University by a narrow margin.
The day’s events began at six o’clock that morning and concluded at six o’clock in the evening with the awards ceremony. The events in the competition were: a physical fitness test, written tactics exam, 10 Kilometer road march, building and crossing a one rope bridge, M16 rifle assembly and disassembly and a grenade assault course. At the end of the day the 54 competitors from the 5 universities were worn out, but school spirit was high and every cadet felt a sense of accomplishment.
The Jaguar Battalion Ranger Challenge team has been training since the beginning of the school year and took first place in the one rope bridge competition, physical fitness event and the 10 Kilometer road march. Cadets Adam Partridge and Yvonne Li took top male and female honors, respectfully, in the physical fitness event.
The team looks forward to training hard again next year in order to take back its title of top Ranger Challenge team in the Brigade.
