Frequently Asked Questions about Project CRUISE

What is special education?

For the purposes of Project Cruise, special education means students with learning behavioral challenges.

I have a four-year college degree, but it is not in education. Am I eligible for Project Cruise?

Yes. Project Cruise will help you switch to an education career even if you did not major in education. Persons who hold a teaching certificate are not eligible for Project Cruise.

How can I work in a classroom immediately when I do not have an educational background?

After orientation, Project Cruise will assign a mentor, a professional in the special education field, to you. This mentor will guide your hands-on classroom experience. This innovative addition to classroom learning will give you the best of both worlds.

If I’m going to USA and teaching full-time, how can I afford the travel between my USA classroom where I am the student and my public school classroom where I am one of the teachers?

Project Cruise will pay you $1,000/semester for these expenses. Additionally, the program will pay each participant an additional $500/annually for professional fees and conferences to help you in your new career.

How long will it take me to finish Project Cruise and become a special education teacher?

Project Cruise gives you the chance to have a master’s degree in education at the end of two years. In return, you must make a commitment to teach in the Mobile County Public School System for at least three years.
