Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program

Continuing Education
The Department of EMS Education’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program is an approved American Heart Association (AHA) Community Training Center (CTC).  As such, the department provides CME training to over 700 students each year, including physicians, nurses, paramedics, and other allied healthcare providers.  CME courses offered by the department and other relevant information are shown below.

Registration     

Space is limited, so register early.  Applications must be received no later than a week before the class is scheduled to begin.  Please return application along with a check or money order to the following address:

CEU or CME Credits     

Courses approved through the State of Alabama Department of Public Health and the Office of EMS and Trauma.  The University of South Alabama, College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.  The USA College of Medicine designates this continuing medical education activity for a maximum of 16 hours in Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.  Each physician should claim only those hours of credit actually spent in the education activity.

Cancellation     
Classes are subject to cancellations if a minimum number of applications are not received by our office on or before the class date.  All efforts will be made by our office to notify you in advance if this should occur.  If you are unable to attend the class you initially registered for, we will transfer you to another class.  To transfer, please notify us at least one week prior to the class you originally registered for.  Our office will transfer your registration only one time, and we will be unable to issue refunds after the transfer.  Registration fee will be forfeited if cancellation or transfer request is not received prior to the scheduled course.     
Meals     

Participants must arrange for their own meals.  USA’s Brookley’s dining facility is available for lunch.

Location     
Most of the CME courses shown above are offered at the University of South Alabama’s Brookley Campus, in the department’s EMS education building at 250 Old Bay Front Drive.  For a map and directions, please click the following link:  EMS Map (PDF, 319 KB).
