Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education is to provide high-quality educational programs for emergency health-care professionals and other emergency response providers and technicians on the Gulf Coast and in the Southwest region of the State of Alabama.The primary purpose of the Department is to educate emergency medical services professionals at the EMT Basic, Paramedic and baccalaureate levels. The Department also is committed to providing life-long training opportunities and continuing medical education programs to all emergency health-care professionals in the region including, physicians, nurses, paramedics and other allied health-care professionals.
Through its Center for Emergency Response Training (CERT), the Department is dedicated to offering on-campus and out-reach training opportunities and continuing education programs for emergency first responders and rescue technicians, such as hazardous materials response specialists and confined space rescue technicians. The Department is committed to assisting business and industry and the area’s public service agencies with safety and health compliance issues and continuing education mandates.
Central to this mission is the Department’s on-going commitment to stay abreast of the latest research, regulatory issues and standards of practice affecting the various professional disciplines and technical fields of emergency services. The Department will continue to promote excellence in education and training and will continue to strive to improve the safety and health of the citizens of this region.
