The HPO is the student organization for University Honors Program students. This is an active, student run, and student
organized group. Each year HPO coordinates service activities, provides support, and spearheads the planning of
fun and innovative gatherings. This year, one such activity was the Ghouls for Good canned food drive.

attended the 2011 National Collegiate Honors Council Meeting in Phoenix, AZ, this week.

What an amazing event!

Cassie was nominated for Honors Student of the year, and represented the Program and the University very well. We learned a tremendous amount about honors programs and colleges from around the country.

2010

Honors students are involved in many intramural sports, including water polo, soccer, softball, and flag football.

Every year incoming freshmen are required to attend the Honors Retreat. From 2005 until 2010, the retreat was held at Camp Beckwith, where honors students completed a low ropes course. This year's retreat was held at held at Camp Grace, a privately owned and operated property spanning over 220 acres in Mobile, Alabama. The facilities include: wheelchair accessible pathways, 48 air conditioned log cabins, three air conditioned multi-purpose buildings, a 60’x80’ covered pavilion/dining hall, two bath houses (including one which is handicapped accessible), a fully stocked 18 acre lake and a lighted Odyssey III High Ropes Course. These amenities combine to provide a fun and adventurous feel that one would expect from a traditional summer camp.

At the Honors Retreat, new students get to know each other and older honors students as well.

Upperclass honors students help with peer advising, where freshmen honors students receive assistance scheduling classes and understanding degree requirements.

To earn the coveted red honors polo shirt, students volunteer to help out on Interview Day and during Freshman Orientation.

The Honors Center is located inside the Seaman's Bethel Theater. Here students hold meetings, have class, study, and have fun!

A computer lab is available to Honors students inside the Bethel.
