Dr. Joyce Varner has been selected for membership in the newly formed Alabama Elder Justice Alliance. This new Alliance of over 35 organizations in Alabama is dedicated to the service and protection of Alabama elders. Dr. Varner has spent her entire career dedicated to the education of those who provide care to elders and is a strong proponent of elder rights. Click here for more information. 

College of Nursing faculty member Dr. Linda Roussel was recently awarded the Semoon & Youngshin Chang Endowed Award for Humanitarian Service at the Faculty Senate Awards Banquet. Dr. Roussel is a professor in the Community Health Nursing department and the director of Our Neighborhood Healthcare Clinic. 

SIgma Theta Tau Zeta Gamma Chapter Annual Conference
The USA STTZG chapter has decided to postpone the conference originally scheduled for March 12, 2012. The conference committee will meet to determine the new date, but a late summer- early fall date is anticipated. Please watch the website for updates.

As an early adopter of the use of technology in education, the faculty at the USA College of Nursing are experts in delivering high quality online nursing degree programs for the working nurse.

Complete your courses online and if you are like most students you will be able to complete clinical requirements in your home communities while working with a preceptor and your faculty.

To determine if your learning style is a good fit with online courses, link to the " Is Online Learning for me?" link on the USA Online homepage. See this site also to check technology requirements that are needed by online students.

With faculty and staff support, you don't have to be a "techie" to be successful in the online degree programs offered by USA. And, you can access the library, bookstore, and many other student resources all online.

photos3.html Congratulations to Dr. Heather Hall on winning the Lizzie Velasco Whetsell Award and presenting her work at the Roy Adaptation Association conference in Boston, June 10-11, 2011. Her award winning work is entitled: The Roy Adaptation Model as a Framework for Adaptation in Families of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), co-authored with Dr. Ellen Buckner.

Ms. Kelly Stauter, who teaches in the FNP program with Dr. Holloway, is the recipient of a Alabama Nurse Foundation scholarship. The primary mission of the Alabama Nurses Foundation is to increase public knowledge and understanding of nursing and the nursing profession. Through its functions, the Foundation addresses the critical issues facing the nursing profession in Alabama today. These functions are exclusively charitable, educational, scientific and literary, and are intended to increase the visibility of nursing in the state. Kelly served as preceptor for Dr. Joyce Varner President, Alabama State Nurses Association at Providence during the Adult NP program at UAB last year and is very deserving of this award.
