The Master of Science in Nursing program prepares graduates for advanced nursing practice and doctoral study. Graduates of the program are able to synthesize and apply advanced knowledge theories, and research to a specialized area of nursing practice and function as leaders in practice and to contribute to the advancement of the profession. The program outcomes are:
1. Integrate advanced knowledge and theories from nursing and related disciplines into a specialized area of advanced nursing practice.
2. Demonstrate competence in selected advanced nursing roles to meet current and emerging health needs of a changing society.
3. Use scientific inquiry to identify researchable problems and participate in nursing research.
4. Apply advanced knowledge of leadership, management, and teaching to improve nursing practice.
5. Influence the improvement of health care delivery and the formulation of health policy.
6. Contribute to the focus and direction of the nursing profession.
Tracks
The College of Nursing has several tracks and specialization options within the MSN program to facilitate students achieving the MSN.
• Post BSN Track (MSN Tracks, CNL, CNS)The following items must be received in the Office of Admissions by the deadline date shown on the Graduate School Application ( see catalog) for the semester you wish to enroll:
1. Completed Graduate School Application
2. Official transcripts from each academic institution you have attended. (A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 is required)
Additionally, the following enclosed items must be submitted and returned to the Director of Graduate Studies, College of Nursing:
3. Completed Applicant Data Form
4. Verification of a course or equivalent in Nursing Research and Physical Assessment
6. Current Resume
7. $50.00 non-refundable College of Nursing application fee must be submitted with your application. Money order or personal checks ($20 fee on returned checks) are acceptable.
Admission to the Graduate program is limited and selective. Students are admitted each semester as space is available in the selected specialty track. Prospective students are responsible for ensuring that all required forms are received by the deadline for the semester they wish to enroll. Only completed files are considered for admission.
