Special Care for the Smallest Patients

The Hollis J. Wiseman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a Level III unit offering the most advanced care for premature and critically ill newborns, and the area’s only neonatal transport vehicle. We also have the only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for critically ill and injured children, featuring Mobile’s only board-certified pediatric critical care physicians and our PICU transport vehicle.

Play Heals, Too

A child’s developmental, emotional and physical needs all play a part in their health. Our Child Life specialists ease children's fears through therapeutic play and open discussion. Special events and programs encourage social interaction and a lively environment where kids can be kids. And, our Class Act hospital school program helps K-12 students keep up with their classmates. In addition, our Therapy Services department provides comprehensive physical rehabilitation treatment for children.

Fun Environment

USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital features bright, lively colors, children’s artwork and room for fun. Our wireless network offers protected Internet access including the Starlight Starbright network, which brings together hospitalized children from around the country. Our award-winning USS Hope pediatric cancer and sickle cell treatment center uses “distraction therapy” to give young patients the feeling of traveling in a submarine during their visit!

Labor and Delivery

Our hospital offers comprehensive birthing services, including special maternal/fetal medical care for high-risk pregnancies, private labor and delivery suites promoting family-centered care, and a Mother/Baby unit with private rooms for the newly delivered mother.

MRI and Mammography

Our new Imaging Center features an open MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) system adaptable for very large patients and newborns alike. The Imaging Center now offers digital mammography, which has the ability to detect breast cancer earlier in more women than the film mammography units at most hospitals.
