Dr. Henry L. Barwood
Associate Professor of Earth Science
Dr. Henry L. Barwood is associate professor of earth science at Troy University, a post he’s held since 2002. He earned a doctorate in soil chemistry and surface chemistry at Virginia Tech University, a master of science degree in agronomy at Auburn University, where he earned bachelor degrees in both geology and music education.
Prior to Dr. Barwood’s association with the University, he served as a research geologist and head of the Mineral Resources Section of the Indiana Geological Survey. His professional experience includes serving a stint as an instructor at the University of Pittsburg and serving as mineralogist/petrographer and analytical laboratory manager at the North American Refractories Company.
From 1986 – 1990, Dr. Barwood was director of the Arkansas Mining and Resources Research Institute and has served as director of beneficiation research at the Florida Institute of Phosphate Research. He has also served as a geologist with the Geological Survey of Alabama.
