Dr. Ed Merkel
Professor of Economics
Dr. Ed Merkel, Professor of Economics, joined the Troy University faculty in 1978. He received Ph.D. and master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University and a baccalaureate degree from Illinois Benedictine College.
Dr. Merkel has written extensively on the topics of international trade, and several of his works have concentrated on Asian economy. He has published on the topic of why free trade principles are good for Alabama’s economy and he also researches various policies of the World Trade Organization as well as steel tariffs.
He is a member of the American Economic Association, the Southern Economic Association, the Academy of Economics and Finance and the Alabama Small Business Development Consortium. He has served as a member of the Board of Editors of the Journal of Economics and Finance and the Business and Economics Review.
