Dr. Ed Stevens
Professor of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences
Dr. Ed Stevens is professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences, the department which he chaired from 1998 to 2004.
He holds a doctor of education degree from the University of Alabama, and a master of arts in rehabilitation counseling and a master of science in criminal justice from University of Alabama-Birmingham. He holds a juris doctor from Samford University’s School of Law and a bachelor of arts from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
Dr. Stephens has served as associate director and attorney for the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program at the University of Alabama School of Law and has been a practicing attorney in civil and criminal practices, as well as serving on the adjunct faculties of UA and UAB.
He is the author of Due Process and Higher Education: A Systemic Approach to Fair Decision Making, and has consulted with the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, the Marshall County Drug Court, the DeKalb County Drug Court, the Montgomery County Drug Court. His service also includes contract coordinator for the Alabama Administrative Office of Courts and research analyst for “Project Safe Neighborhoods,” for the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama.
