Study Abroad FAQ

This list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) will be updated periodically. Please email the International Education Advisor, Dr. Curow, with suggestions.

  1. Will the courses I take abroad transfer back to UMass Dartmouth?
Yes! In fact, before you leave for your host institution, you will prepare a list of courses you hope to take in conjunction with your department chairperson. At that time, the chairperson will evaluate how these credits will be transferred back to the University. Oftentimes, the courses you take will not only transfer back as credit you can use toward graduation, but even as specific courses which can help to fulfill major or general education requirements. In the event you need to change course once you have arrived at the host institution, these will be evaluated upon your return to UMass Dartmouth.

  2. Can I get financial aid for a study abroad program?

If you are eligible for financial aid while attending UMass Dartmouth, you may also be able to receive financial aid from UMass Dartmouth in order to study abroad. You are considered to still be a student of the university, even while you are studying abroad and are therefore eligible to apply for and receive financial aid.

  3. Where can I go?

Your possibilities are endless. As UMass Dartmouth does not have very many university-led programs, we have developed affiliations with universities and companies which do have study abroad programs. You may apply to any of these programs. In addition, you are eligible to attend programs with which the university does not have an official affiliation, although in this case you should seek advice on the quality of these programs before applying.
