Welcome to the Department of Policy Studies!

Policy Studies is one of UMass Dartmouth’s newest and most exciting academic programs! The department offers a Master of Public Policy (MPP) for individuals interested in pursuing a professional graduate degree. It also offers a Minor in Policy Studies for undergraduate students seeking a professional career option embedded within a liberal arts curriculum. Both programs of study center on courses that emphasize the development of policy analysis, applied research, and public management skills.

The Master of Public Policy degree is designed for individuals seeking employment in state, federal, or municipal government, non-profit organizations, and business, trade, or labor associations. The MPP degree is a great option for students who want to continue their education at the graduate level or for fully-employed individuals interested in career advancement, professional development, or a career change.

The addition of a Policy Studies Minor to your undergraduate education will make you a valuable resource to public agencies and private businesses that operate within the public policy process. Whether your major is in the arts, business, engineering, humanities, nursing, or the social sciences your future employer is likely to deal with government and other policymaking organizations on a regular basis. Civil engineering firms must navigate the intricacies of local boards and state regulatory agencies. Business firms and health care institutions are regulated by numerous laws and governmental agencies. The public schools and teaching careers are increasingly affected by public policy decisions made in Boston or Washington D.C.
