Charlton College of Business

Student Organizations

Student Organizations within the Charlton College of Business provide opportunities for all students within a major, whether they serve in positions of leadership or just attend meetings, to learn more about their field of study as a profession. Each organization is guided, but not controlled, by a faculty advisor and is supported by targeted donations, fund-raising activities, and allocations from the Student Senate.

Meeting are open to all students and refreshments are usually provided. Meeting announcements are posted near business classrooms and faculty offices. Guest speakers are invited from local business and provide real-world context and updates to materials learned in the classroom.

Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) spotlights your academic achievements when you enter the job market. Membership means that you rank in the top 10% of your undergraduate class, or the top 20% of your MBA class. Furthermore, BGS members come only from schools with the highest standards for program and faculty: schools accredited by AACSB International. Net Impact UMass Dartmouth

This organization provides individuals with the ability to network with several business leaders in the growing field of Corporate Social Responsibility. Students will identify career resources along with hundreds of job and internship postings, and utilize career management tools including career advising. Also, students can develop new skills through nonprofit capacity-building projects in the community, workplace, and on campus, among many more advantageous opportunities.

This organization is made up of MBA's, graduate students and professionals who are committed to using business for a positive social, environmental and economic impact.

International Business Association (IBA)

The IBA is one of the largest campus-wide activities at UMD and builds social and professional bridges between UMD students and students abroad. In addition to the comprehensive research trips abroad, the IBA visits major local cities to study international business practices and participates in seminars and forums focusing on the impact of trade agreements on local industry.

Accounting Association

The Accounting Association is a student-run organization, which sponsors a wide range of accounting-oriented programs, lectures and workshops in order to assist students in bridging the gap between the theory of the classroom and the reality of accounting practice. The Association is also a student affiliate group of The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and conducts many joint activities with the Southern Massachusetts Chapter of the IMA.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)

SIFE is a worldwide, non-profit organization that partners with various businesses and institutions of higher education to better local communities in more than forty nations. In developing community outreach projects that promote financial literacy, market economics, success skills, business ethics and entrepreneurship, student teams are able to direct what they are learning in the classroom toward solving real world problems. By participating in an annual competition, students develop teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. By educating and serving others, students begin to realize their own potential.

OMIS Club

The primary goals for this club are to promote and enhance Operations Management and Management Information Systems education at CCB and to cultivate future job prospects, networking and internships in these fields via invited speakers, plant visits, projects, etc. This type of involvement/activity would be a great enhancement to the students' resumes.

Millennium Advertising

This student run advertising organization that connects the UMD community to both the American Advertising Federation and the American Marketing Association, gives students the opportunity to work in a fully functional business organization and to gain real world business experience with their peers as co-workers. Any and all students with UMD are welcome to join.

Rotaract Club (Combination of Rotary and Action)

This student run community service organization is sponsored by the Fall River, New Bedford, and Fairhaven Rotary Clubs. Through involvement in various service events, Rotaract members have the opportunity to network with local business professionals, give back to the community, acquire leadership skills, grow personally and professionally, make lifetime friendships and Have Fun!! The club's motto is �service above self'.

Finance Club

The Finance Club is an informative support group for finance students and faculty. Students learn how to apply their skills and knowledge and to enhance their resume through participation and leadership opportunities. The Club also offers its members a chance to interact with colleagues having similar interests on an educational, as well as a social level.
