COIN User ID & Password Information

User ID

The identification number you will use to access COIN will be the same identification number you may have used to check your admission application status online. This number will also be printed on your bill and on any new student ID cards that are issued. In order to access COIN Student Self-Service, you will use this number prefaced with the letters “UMS” as a logon ID.

Example: UMS12345678

The User ID lookup tool enables you to find your User ID online. Get Your User ID

Password

All first-time users will enter the User ID and an initial password. Your initial password will be derived from your last name and birth date, as follows:

LaMMDDYYYY

For example, the password for John Smith, born on June 9, 1987, would be “Sm06091987”

You will be required to change your password when you first log into the system. You will be provided with guidelines for creating a secure password.

Upon logging in for the first time, you will receive a message to set up "Forgotten Password" secret answers. Once the answers have been accepted by the system, you will be able to electronically reset your own password in the future, if you forget it.

Forgot Your Password?

If you have forgotten your password for COIN, you can reset it by using the FORGOT PASSWORD LINK located on the login page.

Click the FORGOT PASSWORD LINK; then a Password Management Page will open. On that page, ignore everything except for the FORGOT PASSWORD Button (located towards the bottom right of the screen).

Click the FORGOT PASSWORD button.

Your first security question will appear; answer that (it is case sensitive; so however you entered it originally, you will need to type it exactly the same way again). Use the mouse to click on the SUBMIT Button (the enter key will give you no response).

Once entered correctly, you should get a pop-up window requesting you to log into your UMassD email account (if you forward your UMassD email, please go to the forwarded account).

You should receive an email promptly, requiring you to answer the second security question. (Again, it is case sensitive: you will need to type it exactly the same as you did the first time.) Use the mouse to click on the SUBMIT button (the enter key will give you no response).

Once you have answered the second question successfully, a Password Management Page will open. On this page you will create a new password, following the rules to the left. Keep in mind, you can't use any part of your name, birthdate, or SSN; do not use any old passwords.

If you are still in need of assistance after attempting this password change, please call Access Management at 508-999-8532. You will need to be at a computer to complete the process.
