Cooperative Education and Internship Program (CEIP)   College of Engineering 

Faculty Coordinators

Faculty Coordinators are responsible for actively procuring and securing suitable Co-op/Internship positions for all qualified students who have formally expressed interest in participating in the Cooperative Education & Internship Program and for providing advising and mentoring to those students already in the program. The following are examples of their primary duties and responsibilities:
  • Be available to students on an as needed basis.
  • Assist students in gaining practical work experience within their chosen discipline.
  • Attend monthly planning meetings.
  • Attend Coop/Internship recruitment events and activities related to student recruitment.
  • Assist in recruiting students into the Cooperative Education & Internship Program.
  • Work with Coop/Internship staff to develop placement sites and increase the employer base.
  • Advise students in the decision-making and selection process for Coop/Internship placements.
  • Develop a curriculum map detailing academic requirements for each student; inform and review plan with each student.
  • Review Coop/Internship job descriptions and learning plans.
  • Ensure that student's work experiences are consistent with their academic and personal interests and constitute valid learning experiences.
  • Monitor relationships between students and employers.
  • Meet with each student to assist in the development of learning objectives for each Coop/Internship experience.
  • Facilitate and reinforce the learning process through a variety of student assignments, e.g., observations and journal entries, papers/reports, topic and field investigation activities, learning modules, portfolio reviews, post-work meetings and presentations.
  • Contact company supervisors at least twice during each student's work term to evaluate student progress.
  • Hold exit interviews/debriefing sessions with students returning from work terms.
  • Review work reports and evaluate each student's off-campus learning experience relative to the learning objectives.
  • Submit an annual report describing activities, outcomes and accomplishments to the dean of the College of Engineering and department chairperson by May 20 of each year.
